PROGRAMME

Due to the Covid pandemic the Global Oud Forum has altered its programming to a virtual platform which will be presented in the form of video episodes. GOF2021 has worked closely with the participating artists to tailor their performances for a digital environment, we are pleased to announce that the Global Oud Forum 2021 will continue its long awaited return.

Episode 2 includes performances by Mohammed Al-Attar of Iraq, Sherine Tohamy of Egypt, Yousif Abbas of Iraq and Zulkarnain Yusof of Malaysia. Additionally a featured report highlights the crafts of Luthier Omar Mohammad Fadhil, filmed at his workshop in Baghdad, Iraq. Dr. Duraid Fadhil Al-Khafaji also from Baghdad, provides excerpts of his research on the Oud and the digital world.

Episode 4 is compiled with performances by Nehad El-Sayed of Egypt, Jalal Kassam of Syria, Ashraf Awad of Sudan and Naochika Sogabe of Japan. This episode's featured report focuses on the crafts of Huosain Sabsaby, a luthier based in Damascus, in addition to input from Sami Naseem from Baghdad Iraq around the Oud instrument as it relates to the digital age.

EPISODE 05

for Episode 5 performances from Driss El Maloumi of Morocco, Nabil Hilaneh of Syria, Alaa Shaheen of Amman and a duet between Somar al-Naser (Syria) and Bacem Yousfi (Tunisia) both based in France. The episode will shed light on the crafts of Nazih Ghadban with a featured report from his workshop in Ras Baalbak, Lebanon. Additionally Dr. Mourad Sakli will walk us through the origins of the Oud, how it integrates into today's music industry and how artists can achieve support for their work.

Episode 6 consists of performances by Necati Celik of Turkey, Hisham Errish of Libya, Hashem Qallaf of Kuwait and Zain Al-Marhabi of Saudi Arabia. The featured report sheds light on the works of Ya'aqoub Jasim, a luthier from Kuwait. This episode highlight excerpts from research by academic writer Dr. Fahad Mohsen al Bathali from Kuwait. on other forms of entertainment that disrupt the preservation of heritage instruments such as the Oud, with emerging generations.

The final episode is with artist Naseer Shamma, with his input on the idea behind the Global Oud Forum and highlights on its goals and aspirations, commentary on everyone who participated in the forum, including researchers, musicians, and Oud makers. Additionally he presents a performance with three musical pieces, You can find the musical notes in the devoted section of the Global Oud Forum booklet which is available for download and includes musical notes for the performances of all of the episodes for 2021.

Episode 1 of the Global Oud Forum includes performances by Faisal Al Saari of the UAE, Bechir Gharbi of Tunisia, Sadiq Jaafar of Iraq and a Trio performance by Islam Taha, Salma Mokhtar and Eslam Abdelaziz from Cairo. The episode sheds light on the crafts of Luthier Amr Fawzi who heads the Arab Oud House workshop in Abu Dhabi, which has witnessed much innovation in the Oud making sector. Dr. Noura al Mazroui an Academic writer offers input on the history of the Oud in the Gulf region.

With each episode a featured report is presented for modern day pioneers in the Oud making sector and for this lineup Luthier Fawzi Monshed will be highlighted at his workshop in Busra, Iraq. Academic researcher Dr. Ahmad Al-Hinnawi provide input on the Oud as it relates to the modern music industry.
